URUGUAY, ESA CANTERA INAGOTABLE (This article is available in English and Español)

Cheers,

NBA: NEW SEASON STARTS! (This article is available in English and Español)

Yesterday a new NBA season began, and 2 of the top title candidates won their first match. Boston Celtics beat the Cleveland Cavaliers thanks to a magnificent 3rd quarter and a great performance by Paul Pierce, who scored 27 points. And Los Angeles Lakers went thru the first game with a comfortable victory vs. the Portland Trail Blazers (good performance by Pau Gasol 15 points with a 7-10 shooting from the field and 7 rebounds, and Kobe Bryant with 23 points, 11 rebounds and 7 assists). These two teams prove to be clear ring contenders as GM predicted in their polls saying that both teams are the leading candidates to play the NBA Finals 09.

Anyway, while it is true that these 2 two have much potential, it is also true that they have some weakness and may be vulnerable:

Los Angeles Lakers:

Phil Jackson finally will be able to have a fully set of players from the beginning, and without injured assets and a powerful inside game with the recovery of the mighty Andrew Bynum who lost almost every single game of last’s season, which will benefit Pau Gasol, who is going to play in the 4 position, with space, and can be terrible for the opposite defenders, which will have many problems to defend him and so teams in addition to trying to stop Kobe Bryant, this year are going to have the problem of Gasol, last year already was a decisive player, but this year, we believe that it will be much more.
But the LA squad has a problem because we are not convinced by the point guard position, as Derek Fisher is too much of a veteran player and obviously his important in the team will decrease, and his substiute, Jordan Farmar, is very irregular and weak -it is time to prove he really is a player for the NBA, who can play with head and is a reliable player (honestly would not be strange that LA tries to sign another experience PG.

Boston Celtics:

The key to the team, the "Big Three"-Allen, Garnett and Pierce-, continues at Boston and this is perhaps the most important news, if the three of them are physically fit, that means that this team is virtually invincible, especially if they have the great support of the TD Banknorth Garden in Boston. Anyway, we see this trio a little orphan, because unless the PG Rajon Rondo, who should this year confirm his proper level showed last season, the remaining players who play along the "Big Three" are simply correct, compliant, workers, but in no case they will win a match and this is dangerous because the season is long and Kevin Garnett, the best defender in the league, has 32 years and Ray Allen, 33 years and may begin to lose their benefits. Besides this year's "Big Three" have suffered a big loss, as the experienced and versatile James Posey, arguably the best squire of the "Big Three" - signed by the New Orleans Hornets, bringing more problems for Glen Doc Rivers to be able to measure either its 3 big stars and we'll see if Boston does not pay up this departure.
Along with these 2 teams, the GM mentioned as candidates for the title the New Orleans Hornets (take a deep look on this team and to his coach Byron Scott, because they have Chris Paul -the best guard in the league, along with Deron Williams of Utah Jazz - David West last season scored 20 points per game, or the shooters as Peja Stojakovic and Morris Peterson and powerful players like Tyson Chandler- last season 11 rebounds per game on average-. Also, Houston Rockets (Rick Adelman has a super team, with players like Rafer Alston -13 points and 5 assists per game last season-, the experienced Brent Barry, Ron Artest- the new acquisitions-, the competitive pivot Argentine Luis Scola and of course with the 2 superstars Yao Ming and Tracy McGrady -that unforgettable victory against San Antonio Spurs when T-Mc scored 13 points in the last 35 seconds), San Antonio Spurs (the competitive team of Gregg Popovich is always a strong candidate at all, because players like Tony Parker, Manu Ginobili, Tim Duncan, Michael Finley, Kurt Thomas and Fabricio Oberto are a guarantee), Detroit Pistons (Richard Hamilton, Chauncey Billups, Rasheed Wallace, Antonio McDyess. We will have to see the level of the rest the players(Walter Hermann, Rodney Stuckey -he played very well in his rookie season-, or the "European" Alex Acker-former FC Barcelona´s player- and Will Bynum-former Maccabi Tel-Aviv´s player), Orlando Magic with the determinante center Dwight Howard, Rashard Lewis or Hedo Turkoglu -the Turkish played very well last season-.
For the rest, we will have to pay attention to the Toronto Raptors, since it will have a powerful front court with the arrival of Jermaine O'Neal; Philadelphia 76ers, since it has signed the "all-star" Elton Brand-20 points and 10 rebounds per game-; Phoenix Suns (Steve Nash, Amare Stoudemire, Shaquille O'Neal), Dallas Mavericks with Jason Terry, Josh Howard, Jason Kidd or Dirk Nowitzki, Utah Jazz with Deron Williams, Carlos Boozer and Mehmet Okur, who play very well when they have the help of the Salt Lake City´s fans; Denver Nuggets with Carmelo Anthony, Allen Iverson and JR Smith-this team has a big problem: the bad defence; Cleveland Cavalier with LeBron James or even the Los Angeles Clippers with Marcus Camby, Baron Davis, Ricky Davis or Cuttino Mobley.
Finally, since Saqueneutral we will pay much attention to the game of the European players who have arrived this year to the NBA. We do not have any doubt about the good level at the NBA of Rudy Fernandez at Portland Trail Blazers (he played excellent during the last 2 European, showing a lot of confidence in his play and of course he is ready to play there- on Tuesday´s game, his numbers were 16 points and 4 assists against Los Angeles Lakers) and Marc Gasol at Memphis Grizzlies (although he has less quality than his brother Pau , he has a good future, since he has a great intelligence, power and vision of the game and if a correct player like Anderson Varejao has minutes at a good team as the Cleveland Cavaliers, obviously Marc Gasol will play many minutes and will be an important player at Memphis-yesterday his numbers were 12 points and 12 rebounds against Houston Rockets). On the other hand, we have doubts over the play of Danilo Gallinari at New York(ok, he has a lot of quality but we think that he is committing the same mistake that his compatriot Marco Belinelli, since Gallinari is only 20 year´s old and he needs more time to improve and to be a mature player, so he had to stay at AJ Milano to build a solid European career-as Marc Gasol and Rudy Fernández- and to start later the American adventure with some guarantees), Goran Dragic at the Phoenix Suns(he also comes too soon, with only 1 good European season, he had to stay this season at Tau Cerámica Vitoria-a top European team-), Roko Leni Ukic (we'll see if FC Barcelona committed a mistake when it decided that it did not want Ukic or whether Toronto Raptors commits a mistake with this acquisition. We believe that he can play well this year at Toronto as Jose Calderon´s substitute since he is quick player and he arrives after a good season at Lottomatica Rome) and Nicolas Batum (the strong French player has much potential, but he has also come too soon, without having a solid career and indeed his last season in the Euroleague with the Le Mans can be described as irregular- he played some brilliant games -, and we believe that he will have difficulties to have minutes at Portland Trail Blazers).
So, too much spectacle and enjoy it now!
Cheers,

NBA : EMPIEZA UNA NUEVA TEMPORADA (This article will be in English soon)

Cheers,

AN ATTRACTIVE SATURDAY (This article is available in English and Español)

This weekend, we will have again very interesting games in all the European championships.
The truth is that the Saturday's agenda is quite interesting, because for example at 20.30 c.e.t we will have the always passionate Torino´s derby between Juventus Torino and the FC Torino. Of course Juventus, although it is not in its best moment-even the important victory of the last Wednesday against Real Madrid-, should win without too much trouble, because the team of Giovanni De Biasi(FC Torino´coach)- he is a very good coach and we liked his job at Levante - is not playing very well in the Italian Scudetto, since it has only won a game (on August 31! When it beat U.S. Lecce)and it lost the 3 last league´s games- the last at home in the game against the modest Cagliari Calcio-. FC Torino is showing defensive problems-it is one of the teams with more received goals of the Italian Scudetto(11 goals received)-, since players like Colombo (right back), the veteran Di Loreto –a slow central defender-or the left back Pisano are simply correct and we think that this line is the worse of the team, since we can find more interesting players in other positions like in the midfield´line, where we find experienced players like Simone Barone and Aimo Diana-both played many times with Italian National team- or the imaginative Alessandro Rosina(this player of the Italian National team is a talented 24 year´s old offensive midfielder with a lot of quality and vision of the game and of course he sounds for many clubs like Tottenham Hotspur-although I think that he is not the adequate player for the Spurs, since Juande needs other players, more defensive and a striker-).Rosina is the responsible to assist to the correct strikers of the team: Nicola Amoruso-an experienced strikero-, Rolando Bianchi- he was unlucky during his Manchester City´s period and he needs some more time to recover the excellent level that he shown during his Reggina Calcio´s period-, and the experienced Nicola Ventola-although he is not in his best moment(his best years were during his Atalanta Bergamo´s period). Anyway, it is just a correct team and we do not think that it could be a hard rival to the the Juventus´s individualities -Amauri, Del Piero and of course we hope that Giovinco can have minutes to show his quality-. So, Juventus, although it has the known absences of Gianluigi Buffon, Mauro Camoranesi and David Trezeguet, must win this game, specially because if it does not win, it could almost say goodbye to win the Italian Scudetto, since the gap between Juventus and the powerful Inter Milan could be of 10 points this Sunday.

For the rest we will have this Saturday at 22.00 c.e.t an attractive FC Barcelona-UDA Almeria (Josep Guardiola must be careful because Almeria is not a team like Basel and Alvaro Negredo-excellent level!-, Pablo Piatti or Natalio-we like this player, whose career we follow since his Cartagena´s period) can be very dangerous for Victor Valdés and we will also have a decisive match for "our" Luis Aragones, who ,after the debacle against the Arsenal on Tuesday, returns to the Şükrü Saracoğlu Stadium (18:00 c.e.t) to play an important and difficult match against Bursaspor (this team is in the third position of the standing of the Turkish Süper Lig).Fenerbahçe must be careful with the young star of Bursaspor, Sercan Yildiri,a young (18 year´s old and 1,82 cm) striker, who is player of the Turkish under 21 National team and he is the top scorer of the Turkish Süper Lig (5 goals in 6 games-obviously, important teams, like Manchester United, are following his play-).We say that it is important game, because if Fenerbahçe lose, Luis Aragones will be sacked, however, if Fenerbahçe win this game, the club-manager, fans and the players- win a lot of confidence, since although the start of the season is bad, the team would be near to the top positions of the standing, specially because yesterday the game between Besiktas (the leader of the Süper Lig) and the surprising Sivasspor (ranked 5th)finished 1-1(the phenomenal Argentine Matías Delgado scored the Besiktas´s goal and Mehmet Yildiz-one of the best Turkish strikers- scored the Sivasspor´s goal). On Sunday, there will be other important games such as Chelsea FC-Liverpool FC at 14:30 c.e.t (it is the Game to see the real chances of the Rafael Benitez´s team), Olympique Marseille-PSG at 21.00 c.e.t and Real Madrid-Athletic de Bilbao at 21:00 c.e.t and Villarreal-Atlético de Madrid at 19:00 c.e.t.
Enjoy!

UN SABADO ATRACTIVO (This article is available in in English and Español)

A disfrutar!

A THURSDAY WITHOUT SURPRISES (This article is available in English and Español)

Tonight we have had a lot of European sport events, both football´s games(UEFA CUP) and basketball´s games (Euroleague basketball).

In the UEFA Cup´s game, we have had 2 confirmations. On the one hand, the AC Milan confirmed that after a very irregular start, now it is playing well and it achieve victory easily as tonight over SC Heerenveen (1-3 thanks to a goal of Jong-a pin-in –own goal-, Gattuso and Filippo Inzaghi). And on the other hand, the Tottenham Hotspur needs a change, because if it continues with this negative dynamic, it will have many problems to remain in the Premier League. I do not understand the bad direction of Juande Ramos, since he has good players but the team does not have solidity, both in the defensive line and in the offensive line(of course it was a big risk to lose Jermaine Defoe, Berbatov and Keane and now Tottenham is “paying” this mismanagement and for example tonight it lost 2-0 at Udine-of course that Udinese Calcio is a difficult rival, but Juande can not use this excuse). In addition, the experienced Galatasaray( we see in the squad, players like Harry Kewell, Hasan Şaş, Lincoln, Servet Cetin, Fernando Meira, Arda Turan, Nonda or Milan Baros) has completed his excellent week, since after its important victory last Sunday over the leader of the Turkish Super Lig, Trabzonspor, today it won a complicated game against the Olympiakos of Fernando Belluschi (1-0, Kewell scored the goal); Ajax Amsterdam continues with its negative results when it plays away the Amsterdam Arena and today it lost at Villa Park(2-1 Barry and Laursen scored the goal); Sevilla FC continues to show strength and it won easily the game against Stuttgart in the first quarter thanks to a Romaric and Renato´s goal. Finally we want to remark the important victory of Sampdoria Genoa at Belgrade-it beat Partizan Belgrade (1-2)-and the comfortable victories of Schalke 04 over the PSG (3-1) and CSKA Moscow over Deportivo de La Corunna (3-0 with a great game of Vagner Love)-I have a question for the Deportivo´s coach Miguel Angel Lotina, if last year the team only played well when it played with 3 central defenders, ¿why this year does the team play with only 2 central defenders? Please Mr Lotina, change your tactics because we do not want to see Deportivo playing next year in the 2nd division
About Euroleague basketball, we should say that we've had a day without surprises, as almost all the favourites have solved their games without too many problems. Thus, the top favourite for the continental title, Olympiakos Piraeus, has achieved a comfortable victory in the game against the Italian Air Avellino, being the key players of the Greek giant, the former NBA´s player Josh Childress (14 points and 8 rebounds) and Zoran Erceg (11 points 6 rebounds in 18 minutes). But besides the Olympiakos´s victory, we have also seen the good sensations of other favourites as Panathinaikos-it beat Zalgiris Kaunas (78-51), being the key player, the guard Dimitris Diamantidis-, the Regal FC Barcelona (after its good image at Los Angeles when it played against Los Angeles Lakers and Los Angeles Clippers, it played again in Europe and it had not any problem to beat Nancy-excellent play of the Turkish Ersan Ilyasova with 18 points and 12 rebounds-), the CSKA Moscow-all the stars played well and they won the game against AJ Milano-, the Montepaschi Siena-we must remark the center Ksistof Lavrinovic (13 points and 13 rebounds), who was the key player in the game against the Asseco Prokom-,Tau Cerámica- Will Mcdonald played very well (18 points and 8 rebounds) against the Fenerbaçhe-Ulker-, the Real Madrid-we must remark Felipe Reyes and”the killer" Quinton Hosley in the game against Panionios OT-, the Efes Pilsen-Milos Vujanic confirms that he has recovered his good level and tonight his numbers were 17 points and 4 assists in the suffered victory of the Turkish team over the Partizan Igokea Belgrade (61-60-a horrible Efes´s last quarter)-, Unicaja Malaga-although it did not play its best game-, DKV Joventut-correct game against Union Olimija(the center Nana Mensah-Bonsu continues playing well and tonight:14 points and 9 rebounds)-.
The only surprise were the Cibona Zagreb and Alba Berlin´s victories, since the Maccabi Electra Tel Aviv with an unfortunate Carlos Arroyo (0-5 in 2FG ) could not counteract the good play of the Cibona Zagreb´s players as Rawle Marshall -20 Points-, the guard Davor Kus (23 points) and the center Nikola Prkacin (14 points). Neither the Lottomatica Roma could not win its game against Alba Berlin (68-63) “thanks” to a very bad 4th quarter, since the stars of the Italian club- Primoz Brezec (10 points), Sani Becirovic (7 points), Andre Hutson (11 points) or Brandon Jennings (9 points)- scored only 11 points in the last quarter.
Anyway, these competitions have just started and we have mucho more games to enjoy.

UNA JORNADA SIN SORPRESAS (This article will be in English soon)

Cheers,

LIVERPOOL FC WANTS TO CONTINUE WITH ITS IMPRESSIVE LEVEL (This article is available in English and Español)

If we talk about the Liverpool FC´s start of the season, we can only say that its start is impressive, because the Anfield Road´s team has not lost any game and of course now it is, alongside Chelsea FC, the main favourite in the bets to win the Premier League.
We can say that the Rafa Benitez´s team can not ask much more-the only negative point is the problem with the injuries (important players like Fernando Torres or Martin Skrtel are injured)-to this start of the season, since it is already the best start since 12 years ago and if the team continues showing this level, it will be the best start in all the Liverpool FC ´s history. If we speak about the Liverpool FC´s numbers in the Premier League, they are spectacular, since Liverpool FC won 6 games and it drew only 2 games-one of this draw was against its eternal rival, Manchester United-. Perhaps the only bad aspect is that the Rafael Benitez´s team, although it is playing much more offensive this season than other season-finally, Rafael Benitez has decided to be offensive when his team plays away from Anfield Road!!-,has problems to win the games and many times it does not play very well and it must mend the results, as for example when it played against the team of Robinho, the Manchester City.

The results are also good in the Champions League, since it won the games against Olimpique Marseille and PSV Eindhoven-by the way the wonderful Liverpool FC ´s captain, Steven Gerrard(one the best Liverpool FC´s player of the history), scored his goal number 100 with the “reds” during this game against PSV, -. Tonight it plays against Atlético de Madrid –they are the 2 favourite in the bets to play next round of the Champions League´s competition- and of course it will be a very open game and although Fernando “EL Niño” Torres will not play the game, Liverpool FC has many chances to win the game, which would produce a consequence: the Atletico Madrid´s coach, the controversial Javier Aguirre, would be in troubles and he can be sacked after the bad results against FC Barcelona and Real Madrid. The Anfield Road´s team wants to keep this good level until the end of the year both in the Premiership and in the Champions League, which will be very difficult, since these competitions are very competitive and it is very easy to lose a game, since there are other very good teams as for example Inter Milan-the Italian club showed an incredible level last Sunday against AS Roma, since it played with a big ambition and winning mentality and of course if the Jose Mourinho´s team continue playing with this level, it will the main favourite to win both the Scudetto and the Champions League (by the way, the Inter´s rival last Sunday, AS Roma showed a very poor level and besides today it will have a very difficult game at Stamford Bridge against Chelsea FC and we will see if it is the last game of Luciano Spalleti as “Romanista” coach-of course he is not the only coach with troubles, since other examples are Claudio Ranieri-although Juventus won yesterday the game against Real Madrid-the spanish team was sleeping during 60 minutes-, it must improve much more-or Luis Aragones, whose Fenerbahçe is sinking-of course it is not a surprise the hard defeat against Arsenal, since Fenerbahçe has many defensive problem and for example it received 4 goals when it played against Kayserispor, so this result (5 goals received)is normal when it play against excellent team as Arsenal FC)-.
We'll see what happens tonight.

GRAN INICIO DE LOS "REDS" DE BENITEZ (This article wil be in English soon)

A REVISION OF THIS SATURDAY (This article is available in English and Españo)

This Saturday we have had interesting games in the European leagues and we did not watch too many surprises.

On the one hand, Luis Aragones won more time to try to improve the Fenerbahçe´s play after an in extremis triumph at Kocaelispor. Anyway, the Spanish coach can not be conceited after this game, because on one hand the Kocaelispor Kulubu is a very weak-if we except Nenad Jestrovic (he played 5 seasons at RSC Anderlecht), this club does not have any player with enough international experience-, since it is a new promoted team to the Turkish Süper Lig and this season it has only gotten a pyrrhic point in 7 games, being the last team in the standing of the Turkish Süper Lig. On the other hand, Fenerbahçe played horrible, without rhythm, very slow and showing a defensive fragility –it is difficult to understand how Jesrtovic could score a goal when he was with 3 Fenerbahçe defender (of course if Deniz commits a mistake, it is very easy to understand the goal of the Serbian striker)-. If Fenerbahçe won this game, it was because Kocaelispor is a very fragile team and because Aragones has quality players-although for example Alex is not in his best moment-and of course this quality always appears and for example this Saturday Dani Güiza-the best player against Kocaelispor- had 4 important plays and he took advantages of these chances, since he scored 1 goal and he assisted to Semith Sentürk and to Ugur Boral-by the way, I did not understand the Ugur Boral´s substitution, please Aragones, Kocaelispor is not Manchester United and you can have offensive player in this game, it is not necessary player like Deniz to keep the results-.These 3 particular plays were enough to win the game, being the first Fenerbahçe´s victory this season as visitor and of course it is important in order to have more confidence and to be ready to play next Tuesday the important Champions League´game against FC Arsenal, although of course if Fenerbahçe play like today, it is very difficult to see a positive result, since the Gunners is a strong team and it will arrive perfect to the Tuesday´game, after the hard victory against Everton this Saturday(3-1) thanks to the goals from Samir Nasri, Robin van Persie and Theo Walcott. Arsenal, after this victory, continues the rhythm of the Premier League´s leaders, Chelsea FC and Liverpool FC-the London´s team humiliated Middlesbrough FC at the BT Cellnet Riverside (0-5) and Rafa Benitez's team was able to remount in the final minutes the 2 goals from the Egyptian player of Wigan Athletic, Amr Zaki (he is one of the sensations of this season, being the top scorer in the Premier League for the moment). In addition, we must point out that Bayern Munich has returned to win a league´s game thanks to a goal from Miroslav Klose-the last Bayern Bundesliga´s victory was a month ago, when it played against FC Cologne -, besides Juventus Torino continues its free fall and it lost at San Paolo stadium the game against Naples (2-1), which can be one of the last Claudio Ranieri´s game as "Bianconero”´s coach-hey Claudio, if Juve made an effort and it renewed Giovinco, it is because Juve trusts in this player and his position can not be on the bench. He must play and must play all the game, no only 5 minutes like this Saturday. So Claudio, if you want to have any chances against Real Madrid: Alex Del Piero and Sebastiano Giovinco together, because otherwise Real Madrid will have a lot of facilities and it will win the game in any play, although it seems inoffensive, like this Saturday when Real Madrid won in the last second thanks an absurd Heitinga´s penalty.
This Sunday is time to see other big clubs like FC Barcelona-it will plays at 1900 cet at San Mames against Athletic Bilbao- or AC Milan-it will play at 15:00 cet at San Siro against Sampdoria- and of course we can watch the game between AS Roma and Inter Milan-at Olimpico of Rome at 2030 c.e.t-and the game between Galatasaray and Trabzonspor at 18.00 c.e.t.
Finally, remember, this Sunday at 13.00 c.e.t.the World Cup Final of Futsal between Brazil and Spain

UN SABADO SIN SORPRESAS (This article is availble in English and Español)
