A REVISION OF THE LAST WEEKEND (This article is available in English and Español)

If a weekend is usually synonym of sporting events, ¿what can we say about this past weekend, since we have had a lot of important sporting events and now we will revise?.
Obviously we have had many football games and the truth is that my Friday´s recommendation was correct, since all those games have not disappointed. On the one hand, we watched on Saturday as the FC Bayern Munich was humiliated by Werder Bremen at the Allianz Arena,-ok, FC Bayern is at the beginning of the season and the players have to adapt to the Jürgen Klinsmann´s system(he uses a 3-5-2) and besides the French star Franck Ribéry is injured (it is possible that Ribéry return to play this Wednesday during the Cup´s match against FC Nuremberg)and Werder Bremen is a good team(the manager, Thomas Schaaf, wants always an offensive game), but this defeat at home (2-5)is totally unforgivable, and of course Klinsmann has a lot of work in order to get the objective if we attend to the quality of the FC Bayern´squad(to win the Bundesliga and to play at least the semi-finals of the Champions League should be the objectives)-; On the other hand, we watched on Sunday as Scolari lost another chance to win a big European club, since Chelsea FC did not win the game against Manchester United (1-1)- by the way, if there was any doubt about the apathetic Anelka, ¿ what is he doing at Chelsea FC? Drogba showed much more danger in 5 minutes to the Manchester´defensive than the French striker throughout the first half (I insist on this in other articles of the blog, if Chelsea FC wants to win something this season, it needs another more striker)- and we also watched the AC Milan´s resuscitate thanks a "comfortable" victory over SS Lazio –although we believe that the score was excessive, because Lazio played well the first half(specially Goran Pandev and Zarate, who were a continual problem to the slow AC Milan´s defensive line –Senderos should have a chance now!), but concrete plays(the distant shots of Gianluca Zambrotta and Kaka or the Seedorf´s lucky play) decided the game in favour of the "Rossonero"(by the way, this game has 2 consequence: 1- the injury of Gattuso and Borriello, who will be injured during 10 or 20 days and 2-the Andriy Schevchenko´s place is on the bench and the Brazilian Alexandre Pato must play without any discussion)-. Finally about football, I want to review that the 2 big clubs of the Spanish league are getting a better level and these clubs won easily this Sunday-although, I think that we should be objective and explain the circumstances, because on the one hand, FC Barcelona played against Sporting Gijon, so against a team with a poor level and I think that this club will be in the Second Spanish division next season and on the other hand Real Madrid played against decreased Racing Santander, since neither the best Santander´defender, Ezequiel Garay, and neither their most experienced striker, Pedro Munitis, played and besides the Racing´s players were tired since they played an Uefa Cup´s game last Thursday ... so for the moment it is better than the supporters of these 2 big clubs have not euphoria.-

But besides, the sport´s fans have been enjoying this weekend with other events like the Ryder Cup of Golf-the American team played very well, especially in last day(we saw many birdies in the American team)- and the Ryder Cup, after 3 consecutive editions with an European domination, turns to USA; or the semi-finals of the Davis Cup of tennis-Spain, with a superb Rafael Nadal(the number 1 of the ATP) won easily (4-1) the eliminatory against the USA, represents by Andy Roddick, Sam Querrey, Mardy Fish and Mike Bryan. The other semi-final between Argentina and Russia was much more open, and the eliminatory decided in the 5th game, when Argentine Juan Martin Del Potro defeated comfortably to Russian Igor Andreev in 3 sets (6-4,6-2,6-1); Moreover we could watch the European "Champions Trophy" of Handball, where the European Champion, el Balonmano Ciudad Real from Spain, showed who is the strongest European team at this moment and, after 2 defeats during last 2 weeks against FC Barcelona and Balonmano Valladolid, won this Championship with authority-it defeated in the semi-final to the German THW Kiel(it is very good team, but the French star, the genial Nikola "the Serbian" Karabatic did not play and of course the German team loses a lot of potential without him) and Ciudad Real won the final, played against the hard Hungarian team MKB Veszprem, thanks to a very good second half-. Finally, we also want to refer to the Vuelta of Spain (cycling), which concluded yesterday in Madrid and it did without surprises, because the most favourite, Alberto Contador, won and he, with only 25 year´s old, is now in the elite group of the mythical cyclers ( "The Cannibal" Eddy Merckx, "L'Enfant Roi" Jacques Anquetil, "The Cayman" Bernard Hinault and "The Phoenix" Felice Gimondi), who have won the "Big Three”: the Tour de France, Giro d'Italia and the Vuelta of Spain.
Alberto, Bravo!
Cheers,
J&F

Hola!

Saludos
